A brief explaination of the confusing Hoya UV filters sub type suffix as explained by other internet users.
UV (0) or (C): (0) is the main UV filter product offer. (C) = compact and has same optical characteristics as (0)
UV (N) made for the Asian market and was not made from optical glass.
UV (A) UV-A is the closest to visible light,
UV (B) UV-B filter will block less violet light
UV (C) will block UV-C light but no violet light; it will, however, pass some UV-A and UV-B light as well.

 These filters offer both amateur and professional photographers HOYA's famous quality at reasonable prices. They have coatings applied to both surfaces to suppress reflection and increase light transmission. There are a few exceptions in the special effects range which, due to the special materials used in construction, do not have coatings applied.  These popular filters are renowned for their ability to minimise reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting. The result is an average light transmission of over 97%, giving sharp contrast and well balanced color. HOYA HMC filters are recommended for enhancing the performance of today's multicoated lenses.  These outstanding filters offer revolutionary performance in light transmission and color balance. 12 layers of Super Multicoating are applied to the surfaces of the Skylight 1B and UV(0) models, which produces an average transmission of 99.7%! Coupled with maximum surface precision, this allows increased resistance to flare and stunning images can be recorded at wide apertures without compromising the performance of your lenses. Our ultra thin Circular Polarising filters have seven layers of Multicoating applied to their rear surface to eliminate internal reflections and ghosting. Advanced thin selective film is used to guarantee perfectly polarised light with neutral color balance. Their slim profile of just 5mm avoids any vignetting problems and makes them ideal for use with wide angle lenses. There is no front female thread, but they do accept our push-on lens caps. HOYA Super HMC filters will appeal to the most demanding of photographers who require the ultimate in performance.  CLEANING YOUR FILTERS:
Due to their high precision, filters should always be handled with care and kept clean whenever possible. Filters should be cleaned gently with just a lens tissue or soft cotton cloth. Never use any chemicals, such as lens cleaning fluid, on your filters, as these can damage the coatings. If any stubborn stains occur, these can usually be washed off with some clean water and a soft cotton cloth.

These new HD Filters from Hoya will save you a lot of cleaning and polishing. They are very hard to smudge or break so keeping them permanently attached to your lenses is a no brainer. They may seem expensive but like an Apple computer they just work and they wont let you down. Get one for all your lenses and forget about fidgeting around with cleaning cloths and just go take pictures. |
