Ive owned various Nikon manual (AI-S) lenses (e.g. Nikon 50mm f/1.8 AI-S , Nikon 85mm f/2.0 AI-S), and this Nikon 50mm f/1.2 is the sharpest. Actually, sharpest lens Ive owned when stopped down to f/2.0. Lens feels solid, focus ring feels professional, heavy, tho very smooth and acurate. Aperture ring feels a tad loose and can click into positions between the marked f/1.2, f/2 at the wide end, altho thats typical of manual lenses. Ive had problems with other Nikon Ai-S and lens flare - this has not so far been the case with this Nikon 50mm f/1.2 even without using the HR-2 lens hood. In fact, some of the sun stars shooting objects in bright sunlight make for quite a stunning effect! I see no chromatic aberration or distortion yet with this lens. The contrast is pleasant, and very good. Shooting at wider apertures on this bright lens means I can use lower ISO than other lenses, which means lower noise. Ordered this lens, which I thought was a really good deal and a great bargin. However Topbuy were unable to deliver, they told me that the lens had been damage in the warehouse and could not supply it. I was very disappointed, however they did contact me and refund my money. |
